How To Choose An Affiliate Marketing Program

When it comes to choosing the right affiliate marketing programs to promote, many affiliate marketers find themselves entrenched in what seems like a never-ending battle. While there are certainly no shortage of programs from which to choose, it’s common for affiliate marketers to become hesitant as they try to avoid the various scams and schemes they’ve heard so many horror stories about.

Obviously, you’re going to want to be part of programs that offer quality products at reasonable price points. While commissions may vary, delivering quality products should never be compromised. Not only is your reputation at stake, but more importantly, satisfying your customers is paramount if you plan on creating a sustainable affiliate marketing business.

Sure, some people may recognize that you were recommending a product based on your opinion and that their feelings about the product or service may not match yours. But, the vast majority of people (in almost any market) will not be loyal to an affiliate that promotes low-quality goods.

In a nutshell… if you’re going to ask someone to part with their hard-earned cash, make it worth their while and offer something of value.

If you ever find yourself asking “Why bother with affiliate marketing in the first place?”, consider these few tips:

1. You can easily be an affiliate marketer on a part-time basis – The products or services are already created, you simply have to promote what’s already available. You’ll save tons of time by not having to create your own products.

2. You can make really good money in affiliate marketing – Thousands of products are available at places like Clickbank and Commission Junction. You can choose established products and services that often times pay really nice commissions. Yes, it’s true that some multi-million dollar businesses have been created using affiliate marketing.

3. You can earn a residual income via affiliate marketing – If you can locate services that have recurring billing cycles, monthly memberships for example, you can develop streams of income that continually pay you month after month.

Okay, so there’s money to be made… Let’s take a closer look at what programs may be right for you:

I always recommend you choose an area that you’re familiar with on a personal basis. I say this because there is a lot more to your future success than the paychecks alone. Have you ever worked a decent paying job that absolutely bored you to tears? It almost seems like the clock ticks slower and slower as the day (or night) goes on and you just can’t wait for quittin’ time.

Well, if you get yourself involved in promoting things that you have no interest in, you may find yourself feeling the same way as you sit there banging away on the keyboard promoting products only caring about how many sales you can make.

Promoting affiliate programs in an area that is related to something you’re passionate about (maybe a hobby or special talent that you have) will get your creative juices flowing and help you attract potential buyers to you as you share your feelings and experiences with them.

If you’re “into” something that’s popular and there’s a growing market for the products or services you’re looking to promote, there may be an anxious group of people out there begging you to supply them with what they’re looking for.

Fire up your favorite search engine and type in “your area of interest + forum” to find like-minded people talking about various topics related to your affiliate product. (Use a little caution here… be patient, participate, have some fun and don’t hammer everybody over the head with your offers immediately)

Look for affiliate programs that offer multiple tools and resources to make your promotions easier and more attractive. If a person or company has gone the extra mile and created quality graphics or templates for you to use, it usually shows that they are interested in helping you succeed in your marketing efforts. Knowing that you’re more than a paycheck to them will go a long way as you progress and begin weeding out the programs that simply leave it all up to you.

Incentives will vary and so will every individual’s success. Just because you read someone’s post touting their dislikes about a particular program, it doesn’t mean there aren’t good points about that program. Do your due diligence and research to see if there are any negative patterns developing around the web. If a bunch of people talk bad about a program; be cautious, but don’t let a few stray comments make your judgement for you. If you decide to give it a try and you’re not satisfied with the results, move on and start promoting another related product or service.
